Shahib has been living in the Netherlands for twenty years, having fled homeland Somalia with his mother and brother at the age of nine. In this documentary he takes stock of his life in a fluent mix of word, music and performance. Director and good friend Marie van Vollenhoven places his story in a white space that she continually transforms and animates. With the call of Shahib’s lost years, the film raises the question of how far good intentions reach, both in terms of friendship and bureaucracy.
